About Dr. Venis

Dr. Juan Carlos Venis is a lifelong Hoosier, family physician, educator, and leader with expertise in HIV medicine and LGBTQ+ health. He is proud to use a relationship-centered and evidence-based approach in his clinical practice. Getting to know his patients over time and building on their strengths is why he loves being a family doctor.
Since 2022, Dr. Venis has helped lead expansion of new primary care services at Damien Center, Indiana's largest and oldest HIV/AIDS service organization.
In 2017, Dr. Venis joined the Indiana University School of Medicine as clinical faculty. In this role, he helped develop and implement new curricula while teaching in both the classroom and clinic.
Dr. Venis frequently presents on LGBTQ+ health topics and collaborates with organizations like the Midwest AIDS Teaching and Education Center and OutCare Health. In partnership with familydoctor.org, he has appeared in the media to educate the public on the importance of cardiovascular disease prevention.
As 2023–2024 President and current Board Chair of the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Venis advocates for primary care on state and national levels. He currently serves on the American Academy of Family Physician's Commission on Health of the Public and Science.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Venis enjoys travel, fitness, and exploring new cuisines with his family and friends.
